Walter "Lefty" H. Hausfeld age 90 passed away peacefully at the Miller House in Celina, Ohio on Friday, August 8, 2014. Walter was born on November 27, 1923. He was a graduate of St. John's High School class of 1941. After high school he was employed at Copeland Refrigeration Corp., Sidney, Ohio and then drafted into the US Army in 1943. His advanced basic training was spent attending Texas A & M University. After successfully completing the Army's accelerated mechanical engineering program, he was sent to the European Theatre and assigned to an ordinance repair unit in the 82 Airborne Division. His time overseas was spent in France & Germany repairing and servicing a variety of battle damaged vehicles. His service awards include the Bronze Star. He returned to the U.S. and then discharged in February 1946. After residing in Maria Stein for several months he was recalled to active military duty and served another six months as an ordinance instructor at Ft. Knox, KY. Following the completion of his military obligation, he held several short-term jobs including a return to Copeland Refrigeration Corp for 3 years, 3 years at Monarch Machine and having his own Pet Milk Route for several years. In October 1955, he began his long-term employment with New Idea in the Field Service Dept. During his 30 plus year career, he was based and worked out of a number of New Idea Branch Offices in the west and Midwest, ending his employment in Omaha, NE. He retired from New Idea at the age of 60. He remained in Omaha until September 2007. During the last resided at the Miller House in Celina. He has been a long time member of Maria Stein American Legion and Chickasaw VFW. He is survived by his sister Alfrieda "Fritz" Albers, Maria Stein and his brother Tony & Cathy (Alteri) Hausfeld, Ft. Wayne, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert & Bernadina (Wendeln) Hausfeld, infant sister Rose, sister Mary Ann Depweg, brother Cyril Hausfeld and brother Gerald Hausfeld. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Maria Stein with Rev. Gene Schnipke celebrant. Burial will take place in St. John Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, August 11, 2014 and from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 12, 2014.
