Dennis A. Bertke, age 84, of Maria Stein, died on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Briarwood Village, Coldwater. He was born September 6, 1929 in Maria Stein, to the late Rudolph J. & Lena (Wint) Bertke. He married Ruth (Huecker) on July 9, 1949 in McCartyville and she died September 25, 2009. He is survived by ten children, Jerry & Janie Bertke of Coldwater, Ted & Dianna Bertke of Celina, Jan & Ron Hertel of Celina, Kenneth & Kathy Bertke of Versailles, John & Karen Bertke of Celina, Nick & Lin Bertke of Troy, Betty & Brian Rembacki of Coldwater, Kay & Don Homan of New Bremen, Norman & Tiffany Bertke of Columbus and Scott & Annie Bertke of Columbus, 28 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, a sister, Thelma Bruns of Coldwater and a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Bertke of Celina. He is also preceded in death by two sons, Dave Bertke and Mike Bertke, three brothers, LeRoy Bertke, Earl Bertke & Ralph & Ellen Bertke, a sister, Alice & Alvin Bruggeman and a brother-in-law, Wilbert Bruns. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Maria Stein, where he was a former choir member, the Knights of St. John- Uniform Rank, and the Coldwater Eagles.He was employed at New Idea Coldwater for 38 years. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 30, 2013 at St. John Catholic Church, Maria Stein, with Fr. Gene Schnipke, officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Monday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster. Memorials may be made to State of the Heart Hospice. Condolences may be left at
